When a user is watching a YouTube video on the YouTube website or the official YouTube mobile app, users can adjust the video playback speed to their satisfaction. So, users are allowed to control both slowing the playback down and speeding the playback up. But the choices are somewhat limited. If you would like to increase the number of playback speed or decrease the number of playback speed choices in the YouTube iOS app, then a new and free jailbreak tweak called YTSpeed by iOS developer Lyvendia makes the above purpose real.

As you can see in the before (left) and after (right) screenshot examples below, YTSpeed changes the playback speed options as follows.

YTSpeed Tweak Playback Speed Settings

YTSpeed Playback Options

BeforeAfter
0.25x 0.50x
0.50x1.00x
0.75x1.50x
Normal2.00x
1.25x2.50x
1.50x3.00x
1.75x3.50x
2.00x4.00x

According to the official YouTube mobile app, the video playback settings only apply to your current video. But we know that the previous playback settings do not apply when watching a video by relaunching the YouTube mobile app. YTSpeed tweak changes this, and it remembers your playback speed selection for all future videos until you changed that playback speed. Significantly, there are no options to configure the tweak.

One thing worth mentioning, the YouTube tweak called uYou, released by iOS developer Miro92, allows jailbreakers to increase or decrease the video playback speeds more quickly than YTSpeed by tapping on the video without opening an additional menu.

YTSpeed is available for free from the BigBoss repository via your favorite package manager. It is compatible with iOS 10 to iOS 14 devices with the official YouTube app installed on them.
