By default, Apple gives iOS or iPadOS users to choose from their operating System which apps can use cellular data or not. In other words, you can enable or disable an app’s access to Mobile Data in the settings app. This can be particularly helpful for users who have subscribed to capped data plans with their cellular providers. However, you can not do that for Wi-Fi as every application installed on your device can access the connected Wi-Fi network. Significantly, Apple does not offer to choose which applications can and cannot use Wi-Fi networks. So. it is an essential option as some home Wi-Fi plans even have data caps. As a solution to that, iOS developer daniel has released a new, free jailbreak tweak called Conditional.

It lets iPhone and iPad users select whether specific apps should only use Wi-Fi, access both Wi-Fi and cellular networks, or completely turn off the Internet at all for the app. Once installed, users can configure these options in the Settings app’s Cellular Preferences window.

In the screenshot examples above, you can see how Conditional tweak changes the way the preference pane displays data permissions for individual apps. It shows you data connection types such as Wi-Fi and cellular.

You can specify how you can connect to the Internet by tapping on an app in the list.

  • Off: The app is not allowed to access the Internet via any Wi-Fi or Cellular network
  • Wi-Fi: The app can access the Internet only using Wi-Fi.
  • Wi-Fi & Cellular Data: The app can use both Wi-Fi and cellular to access the Internet.

Significantly, the tweak enables the feature to turn off Wi-Fi access for apps, which is only available on some iPhone models in China. But this tweak brings the same functionality to all jailbroken devices that may require a similar feature to themselves.

Those interested in attempting the Conditional tweak can download it for free from the Packix Repository. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS and iPadOS 13 and 14 devices. It is also open-source on the developer’s GitHub page.
