Like other Apple products, you can also choose a custom name for the AirTag and find it more easily identified in my app. In this guide, you will learn how to rename your AirTag by choosing a custom name and Emoji for your Apple AirTag (Rename AirTag Tutorial).
Apple announced the air tag at its online sprint loading event in April 2021.
When you use multiple AirTags, Apple lets you choose a custom name and use a published emoji instead of Apple’s default AirTag icon to identify each AirTag separately quickly. Doing so will help you distinguish between other personal items attached with air tags. According to the support document, you can add or change an AirTag emoji without changing its name.
AirTag names are used to quickly identify your AirTag in places such as Find My app on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, Siri voice requests, iCloud device list, and elsewhere across Apple’s user interface. We will show you how to change the name of your AirTag (Rename AirTag Tutorial).
How to rename your AirTag
Before customizing your AirTag, make sure it is set up correctly. Then, select AirTag in the Find My Apps items tab and choose an appropriate option to pick a custom name and Emoji.
- Firstly, open the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Tap the ‘Items’ tab in the Find My app.
- Select the AirTag with the name or Emoji you want to change.
- Select the ‘Rename Item’ option.
- Choose ‘Custom Name‘ and type a custom AirTag name and select an Emoji.
- Then, tap ‘Done.’
The Air tag will show the new name with the selected Emoji in the Find My app.
Also, you can choose one of the built-in names from the list without having to select a custom name for your AirTag. In particular, the system determines an appropriate name based on the item you have attached in the basic setup, such as the handbag, headphones, jacket, keys, luggage, umbrella, wallet, etc. Moreover, Apple lets you choose a different emoji for the air tag icon without changing the name.
