This weekend, iOS developer Ginsu released KillControl tweak. This free add-on gives users control over how their iPhone’s App Switcher behaves when forcefully closing recently used apps. It is also an all-in-one solution to killing your apps. The KillControl jailbreak tweak lets jailbreakers perform more necessary actions while using the App Switcher of the iPhone, such as swiping down on an app card, opening a specific app, or locking your iPhone to kill all recently used apps. Further, they can set up a blacklist and protect Now Playing applications to preserve any playing music in the background.

This jailbreak tweak lets users turn it on and off whenever they want via a preference pane in their Settings app, which will be available after installation. Also, they can configure the tweak’s behavior to their liking.

  • Swipe down on an app’s card to force-quit all previously used apps from the App Switcher
  • Kill all apps after locking your device
  • Kill all apps after launching a specific app
  • Select which apps are forcefully quit
  • Select which app launch triggers this effect
  • Launch specific apps after opening a particular app
  • Select which apps are forcefully quit
  • Select which app launch triggers this effect
  • Blacklist specific apps from being forcefully quit
  • Exclude Now Playing apps from being quit
  • Get a confirmation prompt before killing apps

Users can use the check mark button in the tweak’s preference window at the top-right to preserve any changes they make to the tweak’s options.

KillControl is an excellent tool to automate something I already do regularly on my iPhone after trying it out. Now that my App Switcher isn’t cluttered at the end of the day, I can just set it and forget it.
