Privacy is one of the essential things that messenger apps users should pay attention to these days. With the WhatsApp privacy crisis, many users tend to switch to other messaging apps such as Signal. So, focusing on Privacy in Signal, when you communicate with another person, you do not want him to know that you looked at his message. Therefore, you can disable read receipts in Signal app and turn off the indicator that shows within the communication.
These days, almost all messaging services offer a read receipt, allowing the recipient to check the text you send easily. As with other messaging apps such as WhatsApp, reading receipts show white indicator bubbles in the Signal app.
And even if you use the Signal on iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Windows, you can turn off or enable read receipts.
How to turn off & on Read Receipts in Signal
You can find Signal’s read receipt feature under the app’s privacy settings. To turn off read receipts in Signal, follow the steps below.
- Open the Signal app, and tap on your profile picture from the top left corner.
- Then, from the Settings menu, select Privacy. (See the Screenshot)
- Next, you will see the read receipts settings at the top. Then, tap on it to turn off the read receipts feature for your Signal messenger app.
That’s it. The bubbles indicator will clear with the read receipts turn off, but checkmarks indicate that the message was delivered.
From here, you can pretend you haven’t read some of the incoming messages. However, keep in mind that you will not be able to view read receipts for messages you send. However, the recipient can quickly identify if you have disabled this feature, especially if they have enabled it.
If you want to reactivate Read receipts, repeat the steps above, but instead turn on the Read receipts feature, which must be activated.
We hope that you will be able to take full advantage of the message privacy features provided by Signal. Let us know your thoughts or experiences with Signal in the comment section below.
