Apple has allowed users to rename group conversations to distinguish group conversations in your iPhone’s native Messages app, and the process of doing so can be a bit convoluting. iOS developer Steve Hammon has tried to streamline that process and consequently has released a new jailbreak tweak named GroupMessageRenamer that allows users to rename any group messages in iOS 14’s Messages app by tapping and holding on to a conversation.
As you can see depicted in the screenshot examples below, GroupMessageRenamer’s conversation-renaming menu option can be seen in the Haptic Touch menu that appears after the user tapping and holds on the conversation mentioned above thread.
When the user taps on the “Change Group Name” button, it lets them enter any name they desire and change it to the conversation as shown. Then, the Messages app displays the group chat name change in the conversation. If you need to remove the group name, leave it blank.
GroupMessageRenamer Repository
For those interested in trying the tweak, the GroupMessageRenamer tweak is available for free from the BigBoss repository via any package manager app. The tweak also supports all jailbroken iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 devices. Significantly, the tweak doesn’t provide any options to configure.
It is also open-source on the developer’s GitHub page if you need to know more and how it works.
Do you intend to install the tweak and need to get an experience of how GroupMessageRenamer streamlines the group chat-renaming? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
