With the introduction of the Dark Mode on their iPhones and iPads by Apple, many iPhone and iPad users liked the Dark Mode and became accustomed to using it all the time. However, I personally also like Apple’s dark interface. But, one of the things I noticed about using the dark mode on the iOS platform is that the keyboard is not as dark as possible. So, I started to use the free downloadable jailbreak tweak called Dark Keys Reborn, released by iOS developer paisseon, because it gives a proper dark keyboard for iOS 14.

As you can see from the before (left) and after (right) screenshot examples below, the Dark Keys Ribbon iOS 14 gives the iOS keyboard a proper dark mode, making the keyboard background and keyboard keys darker than they would typically appear.

After installation, Dark Keys Reborn tweak adds a dedicated preferences window to the Settings app to customize the tweak.

Dark Keys Reborn iOS 14 Options

  • Turn Dark Keys Reborn on or off on demand
  • Enable or disable the dark keyboard background
  • Hide and show the keycaps
  • Disable the tweak when you enable the Light Mode

In particular, it appears that you do not need to respring the device to save the changes you have made.

Those interested in trying out the Dark Mode aesthetics of the keyboard on the iPhone can download Dark Keys Reborn iOS 14 for free from Paisseon’s repository via your favourite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 and iOS 14 devices.

If you have not already used Paisseon’s repository, you can add it to your package manager via the URL below.

Would you like to darken your keyboard further when Dark Mode is enabled, or are you satisfied with the way it looks by default? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

  2. Hi, any chance you might port this to an IPA so that Trollstore can install it? Thank you.
